About

I spent a big part of my life, not just my career, in Southern Africa. I ran a product consultancy, worked on development projects, and helped set up computer labs where I taught basic HTML to people who had never been online. Watching someone go from "what is a browser?" to navigating the web shaped how I think about products forever: start with the human.

I lead with questions, not answers. Throughout my career the product work and the organisational work have always been the same job for me: building teams that stay aligned, adapt, and grow as customers, markets, and technology shift.

I build things that matter.
And the teams to go with them.

15+ years in product and organisational development. Started in Southern Africa, scaled product at Zalando SE leading Zalando Lounge, helped enterprises across Europe rethink how they build teams, now co-leading Insurance at Verivox. I build products and the organisations around them.

Conny Törpsch
Where it started

The Africa chapter

I spent a big part of my life, not just my career, in Southern Africa. I co-founded a digital product consultancy in South Africa, partnered with startups and SMEs on product strategy and lean discovery, and worked on business process automation in contexts where getting things wrong had real consequences.

That shaped how I think about product work. You start with the human, not the technology. You meet people where they are. You build things that actually work for them.

That is not a philosophy I picked up from a book. It is something I learned by doing, in places where the stakes were real.

The thread through it all

Product work and org development are the same job

Looking back, one thing has been constant across every role: I have never only built products. I have always helped the organisation around the product think about how it works, adapts, and grows. How teams are set up. How people collaborate. How the structure supports what customers, markets, business, and technology actually need.

At Zalando I ran an agile transformation alongside the product work and led a team of seven POs through real organisational change. At VMware Tanzu I helped enterprises restructure how they build and lead product teams from the inside. At Verivox I co-lead the Insurance business unit alongside the Managing Director, accountable for Product, UX, Agile Coaching, and Engineering across five teams.

That is also where my interest in AI connects to something bigger. It is not about individual productivity gains. It is about how AI as a tool can support how teams think, decide, and stay healthy.

How I lead

Three things I actually believe

I lead and enable with passion for people and progress. Methodology, eye-level collaboration, and authenticity are not nice-to-haves. They are the standard I hold myself to and create space for in the people around me.

?

Questions first

I do not walk into a room with answers. I walk in with the right questions. The best decisions come from understanding the problem fully before touching a solution.

Culture over process

Teams work best when people feel safe enough to say "I don't know, let's figure it out together." That is the culture I build. Process follows from there.

Outcomes over output

I do not care how many tickets were closed. I care whether the customer problem got solved and whether it moved the business. Everything else is noise.

What I believe about product

A few things I've learned the hard way

Good product starts with a real problem, not a feature request or a roadmap item someone inherited.
The best team is the one that stays curious. Expertise matters, but curiosity matters more.
Healthy teams build better products. You cannot separate the two.
Technology, including AI, is a tool. The human on the other end is the goal.
Speed matters, but not more than direction. Going fast in the wrong direction is just faster failure.
I base my decisions on data, good outcomes, and strong alignment. Gut instinct is part of it, but it has to earn its place.
I am still learning. That is a choice, not a gap. It keeps me honest and useful.
Building digital products is fundamentally a people job. Everything else is detail.
What about me

What I'm working on, how I work, and what makes me tick.

What I'm doing at Verivox

Co-leading the Insurance business unit alongside the Managing Director, with accountability for Product, UX, Agile Coaching, and Engineering across 5 cross-functional teams. Platform modernisation in progress, teams to grow, and AI-driven workflows integrated into how we work and discover.

What I work with

I use these tools daily: to run discovery faster, shape strategy, prototype ideas, and get things built. AI tools are part of the mix, but so is the standard PM stack.

How I work

What working with me looks like

  • I ask a lot of questions. It is not stalling, it is how I get to the right answer.
  • I work best at the intersection of strategy and execution. I do not just set direction, I stay in it.
  • Eye-level conversation and honest reflection are not soft skills. They are how I get to good decisions.
  • I give people room to own their work. Micromanaging is a sign of unclear goals, not strong leadership.
  • I learn by doing. AI included. I would rather build something and learn than theorise for months.
  • Good culture is not a perk. It is how teams do their best work consistently.
  • I am direct. I say what I mean and I expect the same back.
What I'm looking for next

Where I want to go

I want to work where both things are possible: building great product and supporting the organisation around it to grow in a healthy direction. Not one or the other. The two have always been the same job for me.

I am drawn to new ventures and growing organisations where there is real appetite to get teams, culture, and product strategy right at the same time. Places that understand that how you work shapes what you build. Where there is room to reflect, iterate, and lead with questions.

Data, outcomes, and alignment are my foundation. Good culture and eye-level collaboration are not negotiable. And I want to keep learning, because that is what keeps the work honest.

Currently exploring

What I'm learning right now

Staying hands-on is the only way to lead credibly in a field changing this fast. I have built AI into my daily workflows and am steering my team to explore what generative AI and agentic approaches can do for our customers.

Conny & Torsten

We know what you're thinking. Two people, one pitch — unusual. But most people don't have what we have: a strategic mind and a technical mind, already calibrated, already shipping together. This is not a gimmick. This is a deliberate offer.

Conny
The Strategist
Shapes the case. Builds the org. Reads the room. Turns ambiguous problems into strategies people actually follow, and builds the teams that outlast the strategy.

Torsten
The Technician
Executes end to end. Builds the prototype, runs the data, ships the AI agent. Where most PMs stop at the idea, Torsten goes all the way to working product.

The unusual part, explained

A duo like this is rare.
So is this combination.

Most companies hire one senior PM and hope they cover everything. Strategy and execution. Vision and data. Leadership and AI fluency. In practice, nobody does all of it well. You end up with a great strategist who can't prototype, or a strong executor who can't build the case upward.

We are not asking you to compromise. We are offering both, already working together, already speaking the same language.

Strategy without execution is a slide deck

Conny shapes the direction, business case, org design, the narrative that gets buy-in. Torsten runs it to the ground, SQL, Python, live prototype, shipped AI agent. Between them, nothing gets lost in translation.

Already calibrated, no experiment

Two years at Verivox, same organisation, different domains. We know how the other thinks. We know when to challenge and when to trust. You are not buying potential, you are buying a working relationship.

AI, all the way through

Conny builds multi-agent workflows into her daily product practice. Torsten designs LLM architectures and ships MCP-connected agents. Together they cover the full stack from product vision to deployed AI feature.

What we're looking for

Where we want to go

Real product authority

Genuine product leadership with P&L accountability. Not delivery coordination.

Remote-first

Leipzig and Berlin are our bases. Purposeful travel is fine. Remote-washing is not.

Something that matters

Purpose-driven companies, real customer problems. Climate, health, financial inclusion, or a genuine "why".

Organisational appetite

A leadership team that wants to build the right organisation, not just ship more features.

Why approach us as a pair

Most senior hires come with uncertainty, will they fit, will they lead, will they collaborate? With us, one of those questions is already answered. We have worked in the same organisation for over two years. You are not buying a promise. You are buying proof.
